I can picture it all. Thanks for the beautiful images you create with words.

Hey! This was a fun read because we must have met just after this 🙂 and I remember you mentioned how you had just done some bird wathcing. I had my son with me and we stopped in with Leslie the day before your book release party!! I love your writing and passion! I should have gotten a signed copy of your book but I borrowed Leslie's and now have it on Kindle for myself as well 🙂

I'm happy to say that Leslie's farm is soon to be in a Conservation agreement and my childhood home and acreage along the Daniel Boone National Forrest are being protected. You're welcome to come explore those any time I'm sure

Hi John, it was so wonderful to meet you and Leslie and Preston (I hope I remembered your son's name correctly)! And thank you so much for stopping by my Substack channel and taking the time to read.

One of these days, it's on my to-do list to finally visit Daniel Boone National Forest!! I'm so long overdo. Whenever I'm down in KY the time is always absorbed by visiting family, which is lovely, but I've been going down there my whole life and have yet to visit the Big Nature you guys are so lucky to have down there. I even went to Centre College in Danville for a a few years, but I never got outside town much. I'm always pleased to hear when families had the foresight to protect their land from development pressures with a conservation easement. I won't spoil the book for you, but that same idea comes into play in the novel!! :D

It was Jonah, but we just barely had a moment to say hi so that's completely understandable 😅 And yes!! I'm completely grateful to have been able to grow up where I did! We even had our own cave system on one of the properties that my grandparents had used for refrigeration at one point! If you'd ever like a local "guide" / exploring partner while you're down I'd be more than happy to do so 😁 I can't get enough of nature personally

Jonah—of course, I’m so sorry, I don’t know where I got “Preston” from. Chalk it up to meeting so many new people in such a short time!

Thank you so much! That’s such a kind offer, I’ll definitely get in touch if / when I finally get down to that neck of the woods. I’ve seen photos and it’s just breathtaking…the rock formations and the waterfalls are nothing at all the Central KY I’m familiar with!

For years I planted bulbs around our pocket park and under the train overpass bridge. Encouraged the business across from that area to plant some of the flowers they sell.

I may need to finally act on my subversive idea of being a local guerrilla gardener. Carrying flower seeds, a spade and water in a jug in my car to plant flowers in these little triangles of green in places around town.
